MONTHLY BATTALION TRAINING
SCHEDULE - 2009
MAY:
BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS / HAZARDOUS MATERIALS:
Performance Standard: Review the basic pathogens that are a
threat to first responders and the basic self precautionary
techniques to prevent exposure and contamination. Overview on
hazardous materials refresher.
JUNE:
PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS:
Performance Standard: Describe proper usage and handling as
applies to the P.A.S.S. acronym. Identify and describe classes
and what agent is most useful on these particular classes and
describe rating system for GMFD’s extinguisher types
JULY:
RURAL WATER SUPPLY OPERATIONS:
Performance Standard: Given a rural water shuttle operation,
demonstrate proper placement of a dump tank, proper size and
placement of supply hose; locate appropriate water source and
continual dump tank water fill cycle.
AUGUST:
AUTO EXTRICATION / RESCUE:
Performance Standard: Utilizing appropriate PPE and proper
extrication tools, demonstrate proper procedure for initial
vehicle stabilization and cribbing, removing door, roof, dash
roll and creating third door if possible and applicable.
Emphasis will be placed on scene safety, performing initial
circle survey and pt. assessment and packaging.
SEPTEMBER: ROPES AND KNOTS:
Performance Standard: Given a section of kernmantle rope,
demonstrate proper tying of a bowline, clove hitch, clove hitch
around an object, family of figure-eights and becket- bend, all
secured with a safety knot. Demonstrate procedure for tying off
and hoisting a tool or piece of equipment.
OCTOBER:
LADDER OPERATIONS:
Performance standard: Given a 14’ roof ladder and 24’
extension ladder, demonstrate proper ladder carries, raises,
heeling, tying in and the mechanics of climbing with and without
tools. Each carry / raise method should incorporate two, three
and four firefighters where applicable.
NOVEMBER:
SALVAGE AND OVERHAUL:
Performance Standard: Demonstrate proper procedure for
rolling / spreading a salvage cover utilizing one firefighter
method, fold a salvage cover for a two-firefighter spread,
deploy two-firefighter balloon throw and construct a water chute
and catch all.
DECEMBER:
FIRE DEPARTMENT COMMUNICATIONS:
Performance Standard: Describe communication response of the
firefighter, basic emergency, non-emergency and business
communication skills, public alerting systems, calling a MAY
DAY, accountability and filling out run reports with emphasis on
the NIFIRs system. Demonstrate proper usage of dispatch and
tactical channels and create incident reports medical calls.
