2012 Cadet Training Schedule:

 

January: Fire Service History/ Equipment and Truck Familiarization (January 12th 2012)

February: Command structure (NIMS), PPE, Hose Pulls and Fire Streams (February 2nd 2012)

March: Vehicle Extrication and Road Safety, including directing traffic (March 9th 2012)

April: Victim Removal, Search and Rescue, and Salvage and Over Haul (April 5th 2012)

May: Forcible Entry and Basic Hand Tools (May 17th 2012)

June: Ladders and Ladder Operations (June 7th 2012)

July: Rehab Operations, and Medical Equipment Familiarization (July 19th 2012)

August: Ventilation (August 9th 2012)

September: Ropes and Knots (Rescue) (September 20th 2012)

October: Radio Communications and Accountability (October 11th)

November: Saturday burn building full structural drill, (NO FIRE) (November 10th 2012)

December: Cadet Outing (TBA)    

 

 

Our goal at GMFD, is to continue to provide a Cadet program that will provide opportunity to encourage and interest youth in the field of emergency services, as well as training and educational mechanisms to prepare them for future employment.  We believe that our program is not only beneficial to the individual youth but to our local community as well.

The purpose of the Cadet Program is with intent to gain the interest of high school students in the fire service and serving as future members of Glassy Mountain Fire Service Area (GMFSA).

All applicants to the program shall meet and comply with the following criteria to qualify for the Glassy Mountain Fire Service Area (GMFSA)’s Cadet Program:

  • Applicant shall be at least a freshman in High School & 14 years of age.
     

  • Applicant shall be of good character.
     

  • Applicant shall have no criminal record.
     

  • Applicant shall obtain written, notarized permission from a parent or  guardian to participate.
     

  • Applicant shall show proof of good standing in academics from high school of attendance.
     

  • Applicant shall be willing to obtain a physical (paid for by the department) at the time of application.

Training is the key that unlocks the doors of opportunity and preparation.”
