The Events Task Force would like to thank all of you that attended the 2008
Annual Family Picnic on September 27th. With over 85 in attendance
you have contributed in making this an outstanding and memorable affair and by
pitching in and helping out in every facet of the work involved have not only
shown your dedication to the Glassy Mountain Fire Department; but have
demonstrated once again that we are “one department working for the good of
all”.
We would like to thank Billy Jones for taking the lead in transporting the many
tables & chairs needed to accommodate this large of a group. We thank those
that assisted in this effort including David Green, Cody Collopy, Ben Levi,
Jared Ferrill, David Brown, Kerry Griffin, Charles Maxfield, and Jon Eiss.
Thanks to Bill Brodie, Jerry Bender, Jackie & Chief Riebe, Ben Levi, Robyn Eiss,
Jeremy Arrowood, Michael Duncan, Amber Hawkins, Alissa Dekalb, Curtis Eiss, Mary
Schleier, and Tom Stewart for their assistance during setting up. Thank you
Russell & Selena Brinson for preparing the iced tea and to Kerry Griffin, Jackie
Riebe, Ben Levi, and Billy Jones for making the lemonade. Thanks to Jackie
Riebe & Chief Riebe for manning the Registration table and for conducting the
Door Prize drawing.
We thank Charles Maxfield for taking the lead in organizing the games, and all
of those individuals that not only participated in the 3-legged race, sack race,
volleyball competition, balloon toss, and tug-of-war; but also assisted in
cleaning up after each game. A special thanks to Jason Cody for providing
Lifeguard services to protect our youngsters thru out the day and the Explorers
for an excellent demonstration of their skills during the Turn-Out Gear
competition. Thank you to David Malak for taking the lead in delivering the
food and to Laura Messer, Lynn & David Malak, Nan Orum, and Chip Orum for
serving the delicious food from The Junction. Thanks you to everyone that
assisted during cleanup and/or assisted in other ways during the day. You names
are just too many to mention for to do so we would need to print the entire list
of those in attendance. We should all be proud that we left the facilities
in excellent condition.
We would like to thank Jerry Bender for taking the lead in organizing the event
and Sharyn Arnold for her tireless work prior to the event in obtaining door
prize donations, printing the signs, purchasing the plates, silverware, cups,
napkins and other dry goods, and for her input and guidance in assisting with
planning this event.
Last but not least we thank the 35 vendors that donated Door Prizes and Vance
Ferrigno and the Cliff’s Wellness Center for making this fantastic facility
available for our use.
On behalf of the Board of Commissioners, Chief Riebe, Chief Bailey, and Chief
Hitt we would like to thank each and every one of the Career & Volunteer Members
and their families for your time and dedication in serving the Glassy Mountain
Fire Department. We hope that you all enjoyed the picnic and that the “GMFD
Family” had a chance to grow a little closer together because of it.
