WHAT IF... there were no volunteer firemen?  Click Here to find out.

Volunteer Now:  Being a member of the Glassy Mountain Fire Department offers rewards few other things in life can match.

Joining our team will initiate a life-long, rewarding experience. Whether serving as a volunteer firefighter, rescue or emergency medical technician, or youth or auxiliary member, there are few opportunities that can provide the sense of pride that comes from knowing you are making a difference in the lives of others—something we experience every day!

We are always seeking people for our team with a strong desire to help others--people with the pride and dedication to make their community safer and better. Because our work is so important, we make sure all our firefighters and emergency response personnel are properly trained and equipped. We provide the equipment, clothing, insurance and training.

The training opportunities are ongoing. Our firefighters receive initial and continuing training as first responders as well as instruction in handling emergencies in firefighting, auto extrications, dealing with hazardous materials, flammable liquids and gas, and technical rescues that meet the requirements of the South Carolina Fire Academy and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. We train once a month with specialized classes scheduled as appropriate. In 2009, the GMFD members volunteered a combined total of 6,413 hours.

In addition to firefighters, we also need people for other critical jobs within the department that can be extremely rewarding. Are you a photographer or videographer? If you can repair or maintain equipment and apparatus, help upgrade and maintain our facilities, assist in presenting fire prevention and public education programs, help with strategic planning, or provide a broad range of administrative duties including record keeping, finance, taxes, marketing, compliance, legal aid, etc. – we have a job for you!

The GMFD offers a wide range of jobs with a high level of job-satisfaction. All you need to do is provide the time. If you want challenging work that provides something meaningful to your family, friends and neighbors, come join us!

To learn more about GMFD, call 864-895-4306 or visit Headquarters or check our website at www.gmfd.net.
